My Story:
While she knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian, Viktoriia Sabluk, 27, from Ukraine, discovered her true passion for pet nutrition with Purina.
Initially, Viktoriia ventured into equine veterinary medicine and worked in a small animal vet clinic. When she was 22, Viktoriia discovered Purina while exploring new opportunities within the industry. “I was accepted as a young veterinary specialist with a one-year learning and development plan. I’m truly grateful that I took that first step and found the path that brought me to where I am now,” she said.
Speaking of her experience, Viktoriia, said: “It was my first time working in a corporate environment, and I learned everything from scratch - sales, commerce, business development, and marketing - while contributing my scientific expertise to the team.”
“For me, the most valuable aspect was the possibility to explore new skills and think outside the box. The team encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, challenge myself, and put my abilities to the test. Each of these experiences contributed directly to my personal and professional growth,” Viktoriia said.
It was during this invaluable experience Viktoriia found her true calling in pet nutrition. “I took additional courses in animal nutrition, attended dozens of webinars led by top European experts, joined training, listened to lectures and much more. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became,” Viktoriia said.
Her dedication and initiative were recognised and within a year of starting, Viktoriia was offered the role of Scientific Manager at Nestlé Purina Ukraine. “This opportunity brought me to Barcelona, where I now work as Science and Nutrition Lead at Nestlé Purina PetCare Europe in the Pro Plan Veterinary Diets department,” she said.
Speaking of her role, she said: “Today, I directly collaborate with leading veterinary experts across Europe - the same people I once learned from. I manage exciting projects, contribute to advancing veterinary nutrition, and feel deeply fulfilled in my career.”
When reflecting on her experience, Viktoriia said: “I would say it definitely exceeded my expectations, as I immediately felt immersed in the work atmosphere and truly part of the team. The combination of hands-on experience, tailored opportunities, and continuous development prepared me very well for my current position.”
As an extension of previous courses Viktoriia completed, The Purina Young Veterinarians programme aims to equip newly qualified vets with a toolkit of in-demand skills, focusing on pet nutrition, employability and entrepreneurship. Participants learn directly from industry experts, gaining insights that are critical for their professional development.
On top of this, the online learning aspect of the programme is ideal for those looking to fit in with their busy schedules. “I think it’s amazing. It gives students reliable information anytime they need it, helps them study at their own pace, and builds confidence by providing trustworthy resources they can always come back to,” Viktoriia said.
