New behavioural publication on supporting owners to manage their pet’s weight

Addressing pet obesity is challenging, and in many cases, pet owners may struggle with the behavioural changes needed to support their pet. Purina recently collaborated with Professor Thomas Webb at the University of Sheffield, to develop a weight management healthcare pack that supported owners in behavioural change, based on the human psychology COM-B model. This built upon earlier work with Professor Webb showing behavioural science was a key factor to address, along with feeding and exercise of the pet.

The development steps and evaluation of the pack has now been published in Frontiers of Veterinary Science. Pet owners found the health pack acceptable and practical, and used many of the tools to support them in helping their pet lose weight.
