Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

As part of our commitment to transparency, PURINA® PRO PLAN® is sharing key updates about our product benefits, packaging and new sustainability standards.

Product benefits and formula updates

All communication has been reviewed and updated in order to simplify the benefits of the products and emphasise the unique selling points of our brand and products.

The formulas are not changing regarding ingredients, cosmetics, palatability and ensuring the same efficacy. Some minor values have changed to take into consideration raw materials composition from suppliers. The only exception is PRO PLAN® Veterinary Diets Canine EN GastrointestinalTM dry, in which the level of fish oil was increased, resulting in a change to the order of ingredients.

No changes on the cosmetic, texture, odour, or palatability of the product are expected within this project.

All our feline products except PRO PLAN® Veterinary Diets NF Renal functionTM Early Care / Advance Care have an St/Ox benefit and we have decided to add further explanation. The products that have this benefit have been formulated to achieve undersaturated/metastable results to create a urinary environment unfavourable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Packaging updates

Nestlé and Purina® have a commitment on working towards a waste free future, which aims make 95% of our packaging designed for recycling in 2025. To help us reach this goal, we are implementing a mono-material solution for all our bags, including large formats. This means that the packaging has been developed to be recycled, and depending on local infrastructure it will be effectively recycled when sorted correctly by the consumer.

All PRO PLAN® Veterinary Diets dry packs will have mono-material PE (Polyethylene Plastic). All these packs will have a statement translated in multiple languages, with a link with a more information on the availability of recycling infrastructures for each market: www.purina.eu/packaging

Nestlé and PURINA® have a commitment regarding the use of recycled plastic in order to contribute to the reduction of virgin plastic use – for this,
PRO PLAN® Veterinary Diets has been the flagship brand to introduce up to 50% recycled plastic in their bags. The amount of recycled plastic
might evolve over time based on availability.

In line with the new European Directive ‘Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition’ (EU Directive 2024/825) published in March 2024, we are removing the ‘Designed to be recyclable’ (DTBR) logo and benefit from all our packaging.
This legislation restricts the use of sustainability logos unless they meet specific criteria — such as third-party certification — which our DTBR logo does not currently fulfil. To ensure consistency and compliance across all brands, we are updating our packaging accordingly.

All packaging used by PRO PLAN® Veterinary Diets dry range is now designed to be recycled, which means that depending on local infrastructure, it will be effectively recycled when sorted correctly by the consumer.
We are only updating the logos used in our packaging designs to be compliant with the new EU Directive Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition. Our commitment to have 95% of our packaging designed for recycling in 2025 has not changed and we continue working towards it.
